SALFORD PRIORS is a small rural village in the United Kingdom set within sight of the beautiful Cotswold Hills.  It is located  8 miles west of Stratford upon Avon, the birthplace of playwright  William Shakespeare and 7 miles east of Evesham  in the vale of Evesham, an important agricultural centre and soft fruit growing area. The river Arrow joins the river Avon at Salford Priors and  is a popular location for fishermen.
With a population of approximately 1,500 inhabitants, the parish of Salford Priors which incorporates the communities of Abbot's Salford, Dunnington, Iron Cross, Pitch Hill, Rushford and Mudwalls is the largest parish in Warwickshire and dates back to before  the 10th century.

The beautiful St.Matthew's Church is of Norman construction  and  is mentioned in the Doomsday book.  The church is open throughout the day and visitors are welcome.  Services are well attended and there are a number of  social meetings throughout the week  arranged by various church groups.

A number of areas within  Salford Priors are designated conservation areas and the parish  is  popular with photographers and tourists alike who make a point of visiting  during the summer months particularly when the village is ablaze with colour from the many planters and hanging baskets.  There are many grade II  listed black and white half timbered thatched cottages which have over the years, appeared on picture postcards, magazine covers and in advertisements for films.

The area is steeped in history with Pitch Hill deriving its name from the camp site where the Royalist army camped prior to its attack on the Earl of Leicester, Simon de Montford  at  Evesham Abbey during the battle of Evesham in the 13th century.

A local village blacksmith still carries out his trade in Dunnington whilst a larger international agricultural engineering company manufacturer  their products for worldwide distribution.
An international agricultural produce packer  takes advantage of the central location of Salford Priors to all the main U.K. motorways which are within easy reach. All of the central U.K motorways can be accessed directly on dual carriage-way roads using the recently constructed A46 Salford Priors by-pass.
An international high technology networking company has located its head office in Salford Priors and its offices blend  imperceptibly into the rural setting.

Salford Hall at Abbot's Salford is a beautiful Grade 1 listed building which was formerly a Nunnery  but has  now been tastefully converted in character to a  Best Western hotel.
There are two schools, Dunnington Church of England GM primary and junior school and Salford Priors Church of England primary and junior school. Both have good academic achievement records.
Within the parish are three country pubs. One of which brews its own beer and has won a coveted National award for the best real ale. All three pubs offer a traditional English pub atmosphere and  provide extremely good value food.

Much of the agricultural land within the parish is owned by the Marquess of Hertford.   Ragley Hall, the home of the Marquess of Hertford, is the venue for many events throughout the year and the beautiful house and gardens are open to the public from May until October.

Three  golf courses are within easy reach of Salford Priors, Stratford upon Avon, and Pershore with the nearest at Bidford on Avon, a mere  three miles away.  For gliding enthusiasts there  is an  airfield  2 miles from Salford Priors where national and international gliding competitions are hosted.   An additional gliding field lies 2 miles north west of Stratford upon Avon at Snitterfield.  For light aircraft hire and pleasure flights with fixed wing or helicopters,  Wellesbourne Mountford airfield, located 4 miles East of Stratford upon Avon offers unrestricted flying over some of the most breathtaking countryside in the United Kingdom.

Within 45 minutes travelling time, a  vast choice of  Theatres, Museums  Art Galleries and important historical sites are available at Birmingham, Coventry, Rugby, Leamington, Worcester, Cheltenham and Gloucester which makes Salford Priors such a very pleasant and fortunate location for all who live here.
